You probably arrived with a date, a rough head count, and no idea what should go inside the cake. Most flavor lists do not help. They are recipe inventories written to be read rather than ordered from, and much of what they name is not on any menu near you. This guide is the opposite: the exact list of what we bake at Sweet Angeles, 16 signature fillings, plus what a list cannot give you: which of the 16 suits your room, your guests, and the photo of the cut slice. Cakes start at $95, and any design can be made in any flavor.
What cake flavors can you actually order from a bakery?
At Sweet Angeles the answer is a specific number: 16 signature fillings, and any one of them can go inside any design we make. Flavor and design are two separate decisions: you choose the outside you want, then the inside.
"All cakes are available in 16 signature fillings: Carrot Cream Cheese, Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse, Red Velvet Cream Cheese, Coconut Cream Cheese, Vanilla Lemon Buttercream, Vainilla Tres Leches, Vanilla Pistachio, Chocolate Oreo, Vanilla Sour Cherry, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit, Chocolate Mousse Fresh Fruit, and Strawberry Shortcake."
The storefront frames the same list two ways, as "16 Handcrafted Flavors & Fillings" and as the promise that makes it useful: "Any design can be made in any flavor." A guest who cannot stand chocolate does not rule out a design.
Sixteen looks small beside results promising forty or one hundred. Those are recipe inventories. Sixteen is what one kitchen bakes to order, the number that matters once you stop browsing. The first column below is the published list; the second groups each filling by the flavor family in its own name. The last two are what we tell people who call.
| Filling (as published) | Flavor family | Character | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanilla Tres Leches | Vanilla | Milk-soaked sponge, light cream | You want the safest choice |
| Red Velvet Cream Cheese | Red velvet | Tangy, high contrast in the slice | The cut cake will be photographed |
| Chocolate Mousse | Chocolate | Airy, not heavy | For people who find chocolate heavy |
| Chocolate Ganache | Chocolate | Dense, deeply chocolate | Adult dinners, serious chocolate |
| Carrot Cream Cheese | Spice | Warm spice against tang | Fall, and older guests |
| Coconut Cream Cheese | Coconut | Tropical, tangy finish | Summer, or a break from vanilla |
| Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse | Vanilla | Sweet, mild, very light | Younger guests and mixed-age rooms |
| Vanilla Lemon Buttercream | Citrus | Bright, cuts sweetness | Daytime events, brunch, showers |
| Vanilla Pistachio | Nut | Nutty, gently savory | Guests who want less sweet |
| Chocolate Oreo | Chocolate | Crunch and cream in the layer | Kids' parties, and honest adults |
| Vanilla Sour Cherry | Fruit | Sharp fruit on vanilla | You want tart fruit, not jammy |
| Chocolate Salted Caramel | Chocolate | Sweet and salt together | The grown-up chocolate choice |
| Chocolate Peanut Butter | Chocolate | Rich, familiar, filling | Crowds wanting one favorite |
| Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit | Fruit | Light mousse, real fruit | Warm weather, lighter finish |
| Chocolate Mousse Fresh Fruit | Fruit and chocolate | Fruit against chocolate, light | Dessert after a big meal |
| Strawberry Shortcake | Fruit | Fresh cream and strawberry | Spring and summer, all ages |
Which cake flavors are the most popular, and why do the same few keep winning?
Chocolate, vanilla and red velvet keep winning because they are the three flavors nobody at the table refuses, and for a shared dessert that is the only test that counts. A birthday cake is a consensus object, bought for twenty people rather than for you, so the winner is the flavor with the fewest objections.
Search demand points the same way. Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, US data retrieved August 18, 2026, records about 22,000 searches a month for "cake flavors" against about 1,300 for "unique cake flavors." That measures what people type, not what they eat, so read the roughly seventeen to one split as search behavior and nothing more.
Mapped onto our 16, the reliable set is Vanilla Tres Leches, Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Mousse, Red Velvet Cream Cheese and Chocolate Peanut Butter. What they share is not quality. None carries a polarizing note, none surprises you texturally, and all read as familiar on the plate.
How do you pair a cake flavor with a filling so it actually works?
The pairing rule we use is simple: one element does the sweetness and the other cuts it. The pairings that disappoint tend to break that rule in one direction or the other.
Contrast beats agreement. Cream cheese fillings work because tang pulls against sugar instead of adding to it. Red Velvet Cream Cheese and Carrot Cream Cheese are the same trick on two bases, which is why both outlast sweeter combinations.
Match the weight to the meal. A mousse filling after a heavy dinner lands. A ganache does not, and people leave half the slice. Chocolate Mousse Fresh Fruit and Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit exist for that slot.
Do not stack two soft textures. A soft filling inside a very moist sponge gives a slice that will not hold its shape. The Tres Leches Cake product page describes "Soft and airy vanilla sponge soaked in three types of milk, layered with light whipped cream." That sponge already carries the moisture, so it wants a light cream, not a second wet element.
One caveat: a filling that tastes right can still be wrong for the room, which is the next section. Read this table as bakery judgment, not published specification.
| If you want | From the 16, choose | Why it holds together | Less suited here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chocolate that is not heavy | Chocolate Mousse | Aeration keeps it light | Chocolate Ganache, denser still |
| Chocolate at full strength | Chocolate Ganache | Nothing competes with it | Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit, lost here |
| Something tangy against the sugar | Red Velvet Cream Cheese | Tang cuts sweetness | Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse, sweet on sweet |
| Fruit that reads fresh, not jammy | Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit | Real fruit on a light base | Vanilla Sour Cherry, which is sharp |
| Fruit that reads sharp | Vanilla Sour Cherry | The tartness is the feature | Strawberry Shortcake, gentler |
| A kids' table that will finish it | Chocolate Oreo | Familiar, no surprises | Vanilla Pistachio, savory to kids |
| Less sweet for adults | Vanilla Pistachio | Nut and salt pull the sugar down | Chocolate Peanut Butter, richer |
| Sweet and salt together | Chocolate Salted Caramel | Salt does the cutting here | Chocolate Ganache, too much overlap |
| Warm spice | Carrot Cream Cheese | Spice and tang balance | Coconut Cream Cheese, tangs fight |
| The most forgiving choice in the room | Vanilla Tres Leches | Almost nobody declines it | Nothing, this is the safe pick |

Shop Cakes Call (424) 777-8080Which cake flavors hold up in a warm room, and which ones do not?
If your cake is going to sit out, the filling matters more than the flavor, and the clock is shorter than most people think. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in "Are You Storing Food Safely?", says: "Never allow meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, or produce or other foods that require refrigeration to sit at room temperature for more than two hours", and it shortens that window further in hot conditions. That is general guidance about perishable food, not FDA guidance about cake. It is simply the frame we use, because a cream filling is a refrigerated food whatever shape it arrives in.
Translated honestly: mousse and fresh-cream fillings soften and slump first, cream cheese fillings are also perishable even though they feel sturdier, and denser ganache-style fillings tolerate a warm table longest. That does not make any of them wrong. It makes timing part of the decision.
So the advice is unglamorous. Keep the cake boxed and cool until you cut it. Do not stage it on a patio table an hour early for photographs. In a genuinely hot room, choose the denser filling. It is the same problem the storefront addresses when it says tiered cakes "include careful transport and on-site setup".

What are the best birthday cake flavors for a mixed-age guest list?
For a table with grandparents and seven-year-olds at it, pick the flavor with the fewest refusals rather than the most character. That is the real birthday problem: a listicle is written for one reader, and a cake is bought for a crowd.
Three strategies cover it. The consensus pick is Vanilla Tres Leches or Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse: light, mild, nobody pushes the plate away. The split-the-difference pick is Chocolate Oreo, a kids' flavor every adult eats anyway. The two to skip here are Vanilla Pistachio and Vanilla Sour Cherry: both good cakes, both drawing more refusals from children than the adult ordering them expects.
Then the part people do not realize they can do: since any design can be made in any flavor, a themed cake for a child does not commit you to a child's flavor. The Party Sprinkles Cake at $125 and the Balloon Girl Cake at $145 look built for a seven-year-old, and the inside can be whatever the room will eat. Cakes start at $95, and on sizing, plan against the two figures we publish: a 6-inch round serves 12, an 8-inch round serves 18.
Which unique cake flavors are worth ordering, and which are just unusual?
A flavor is worth ordering when it is unexpected on the plate and still obvious in the mouth, and merely unusual when the description beats the bite. Apply that test before you fall for something you read on a list.
From our published 16, the less-expected picks are Vanilla Pistachio, Vanilla Sour Cherry, Coconut Cream Cheese, Chocolate Salted Caramel and Chocolate Mousse Fresh Fruit. Each is recognizable within a bite. That is the test the aspirational flavors fail.
Now the counterweight, because this is where most "unique cake flavors" articles waste your time. Lavender, matcha, yuzu, elderflower and black sesame appear on list after list. Sweet Angeles offers none of them. They read well in a headline, which is not the same as being stocked. Before committing to a combination you found online, check that the bakery makes it. Ours is 16 and it is published in full above.
If you want something current rather than invented, the Dubai Chocolate Cake at $145 is a real named product on our collection page, with a price, orderable today.
Which cake flavor fits your occasion?
Occasion narrows the list faster than taste does, because the room, the season and the time of day rule flavors out before preference gets a vote. A daytime shower and an evening dinner party are different problems, and a cake that follows a full meal must be lighter than a cake that is the meal.
Work through those factors in order and you are usually down to two candidates. One thing to be clear about below: pick any row's flavor, then pick any cake you like. The choices are independent, and the right-hand column is a design suggestion, not a statement about what is inside that product.
| Occasion | First choice | Safe second | A cake to pair it with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kids' birthday | Chocolate Oreo | Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse | Party Sprinkles Cake, $125 |
| Adult birthday | Chocolate Salted Caramel | Chocolate Ganache | Double Chocolate Cake, $95 |
| Mixed-age family gathering | Vanilla Tres Leches | Strawberry Shortcake | The Tres Leches Cake, $95 |
| Summer or outdoor party | Coconut Cream Cheese | Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit | Coconut Cake, $95 |
| Fall gathering | Carrot Cream Cheese | Chocolate Salted Caramel | Pink Rose Garden Cake, $125 |
| Winter holidays | Chocolate Ganache | Vanilla Sour Cherry | Sour Cherry Cake, $95 |
| Dinner party, cake after a full meal | Chocolate Mousse Fresh Fruit | Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit | Marble Fruit Mousse Cake, $95 |
| Office or send-off | Vanilla Tres Leches | Chocolate Peanut Butter | Happy Party Cake, $105 |
| Baby shower or brunch | Vanilla Lemon Buttercream | Strawberry Shortcake | Strawberry Shortcake, $95 |
| Something formal, larger group | Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse | Red Velvet Cream Cheese | Two Tier Blush Bow Cake, $335 |

A two-minute phone call settles the flavor faster than any list can.
Custom Cakes Call (424) 777-8080Which cake flavors photograph well?
The photograph is almost always of the cut slice, and pale fillings inside pale sponge give you a slice with nothing in it. If the cake anchors the day's pictures, the flavor decision is partly a visual one.
What reads on camera is contrast in the cross-section. Red Velvet Cream Cheese is the clearest example among our 16: dark layer, pale filling, a visible line a phone camera catches indoors. Fruit reads too, so Vanilla Sour Cherry, Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit and Strawberry Shortcake bring color to the cut face.
What disappears is the pale-on-pale build. Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse and Vanilla Lemon Buttercream taste distinct and photograph as one cream-colored block. That is a real trade-off, and it is fine if nobody is photographing the slice. If the cut cake is the shot, say so when you call, because it changes which of the 16 we would suggest.

What would a decorator talk you out of?
Three things, and all three sound better in the conversation than they taste at the table. None is a rule. They are the places where we would rather lose the interesting order than hand you a cake half the room leaves.
The flavor question is worth a phone call. Tell us the room, the season, the head count and the time of day, and we will tell you what we would order. The answer is often the simpler one, and we say so even when the pricier cake is the interesting one.
Does your flavor choice change what size or tier you can order?
For a single-tier cake, no: any of the 16 fillings goes in any design we make. A tiered cake needs more talking through, and that happens on the phone, not in a checkout dropdown.
Here is what is settled and published. Cakes start at $95. A 6-inch round serves 12 and an 8-inch round serves 18, the two serving figures we stand behind. The tiered cake in our collection is the Two Tier Blush Bow Cake at $335. We hand-deliver across the greater LA area, and tiered cakes "include careful transport and on-site setup", part of the order rather than an add-on. Lead time for a tiered wedding cake is 2 to 4 weeks, against a 2-day minimum for everything else.
A tiered cake is a different production problem from a single round, transport and setup are folded into it, and flavor sits inside a longer conversation about structure and delivery. We do not publish a tier-by-tier flavor rule, because the honest answer depends on the cake and the day. Call us and we will work through it rather than guess.
How do you order a specific flavor, and how far ahead?
Pick the design you want, choose your flavor from the 16, and give us at least two days. That is the whole process.
Choose the design, then the flavor
Independent decisions. Pick the cake that suits the occasion, then name your filling from the 16.
Give us the lead time the design needs
Our collection page states it plainly: "We require a minimum of 2 days lead time since every cake is baked fresh to order." Allow 4 to 7 days for detailed designs and 2 to 4 weeks for tiered wedding cakes. If your event is sooner, "Have a rush event? Call us" and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Add the personal details
You can "Add a piped banner message, a cake topper, a gold number, or an edible sugar image with your photo or logo." None of it changes the flavor decision, so make it last.
Choose pickup or delivery at checkout
Pickup and local delivery day and time are chosen at checkout. Pickup in Beverly Hills is free.
Two days is the floor for the same reason the flavor is yours to pick: the cake in your flavor does not exist until you order it. Everything is baked fresh from scratch for your date, never frozen and never pre-made. A bakery working from a case of finished cakes can hand you one in five minutes and cannot let you choose the inside. We made the opposite trade, and two days is the price.

What are the top 10 cake flavors?
Ten of ours from the published list: Vanilla Tres Leches, Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Mousse, Red Velvet Cream Cheese, Carrot Cream Cheese, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Oreo, Strawberry Shortcake and Coconut Cream Cheese. That is not a ranking. The full list is 16, printed in the table above, and any of them can go in any design we make.
What are the best cake flavors?
The best flavor depends on the room. For a mixed crowd, Vanilla Tres Leches and Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse draw the fewest refusals. For an adult evening, Chocolate Ganache or Chocolate Salted Caramel. For a warm outdoor party, Coconut Cream Cheese or Vanilla Mousse Fresh Fruit, kept boxed and cool until you cut it. The occasion table above covers ten situations with a first and second choice for each.
What are the 10 most popular cakes?
We can tell you what we bake, not what the country ranks. Cakes named on our collection page include The Tres Leches Cake at $95, Double Chocolate Cake at $95, Red Velvet Cake at $95, Strawberry Shortcake at $95, Chocolate Mousse Cake at $95, Happy Party Cake at $105, Party Sprinkles Cake at $125, Dubai Chocolate Cake at $145, Party Time Cake at $145 and Two Tier Blush Bow Cake at $335. Those are designs, and each can be made in any of the 16 fillings.
What are the most popular cake flavors?
Chocolate, vanilla and red velvet. On our menu that means Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Tres Leches, Vanilla White Chocolate Mousse and Red Velvet Cream Cheese. Search demand agrees: Ahrefs Keywords Explorer recorded about 22,000 US searches a month for "cake flavors" against about 1,300 for "unique cake flavors" on August 18, 2026. That reflects how people search, not what they eat.
What cake flavor goes with cream cheese filling?
Red velvet and carrot, which is why both appear on our list as Red Velvet Cream Cheese and Carrot Cream Cheese. Tang cuts sugar instead of adding to it, so cream cheese gives a sweet sponge something to push against. Coconut Cream Cheese applies the same idea to a tropical base. Two cream cheese fillings in one cake fight each other.
Can one cake have more than one flavor?
Our storefront publishes 16 signature fillings and does not list a multi-flavor option, so ask us directly rather than assume at checkout. Call (424) 777-8080, describe the cake and the head count, and we will tell you what is possible. What is certain is that any design can be made in any one of the 16.
How far in advance should I choose my cake flavor?
When you place the order, which means at least two days before your date. Our collection page states: "We require a minimum of 2 days lead time since every cake is baked fresh to order." Allow 4 to 7 days for detailed designs and 2 to 4 weeks for tiered wedding cakes. If your event is sooner, call us and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
